Hardiplank Insurance Discount
Since Hardie Siding is non-combustible, some insurance companies offer a discount while others do not. We suggest that you contact your local agent and ask if installing James Hardie Siding on your home will reduce your insurance premium. In any event, since it does not burn, your home will be safer. Rhino Design Build just replaced the siding on a house in San Antonio that had 75% brick and the rest was wood siding. After we removed the old siding and replaced it with Hardiplank, the homeowner was now eligible to get a discount on his insurance since the home was now 100% masonry. Cement Fiber Siding is a popular choice for many of our clients that are remodeling their homes due to the low cost vs stone, brick or stucco. Be sure and talk to your insurance agent before you make any decisions.
What is Hardiplank?
HardiPlank is an engineered, non-wood exterior siding product and is considered a “green” building material. It is produced from a fibrous cement material that resists weather, water, insect and fire damage. HardiPlank is designed for residential and commercial use. It is designed to imitate the look of natural wood but without the high maintenance of a wood exterior finish. Hardiplank comes pre-primed and is 5/16-inch thick. They weigh 2.3 pounds for every square foot, and are available in 12-foot planks. The available widths include 5.25 inches, 6.25 inches, 7.25 inches, 8.25 inches, 9.25 inches and 12 inches. Not all patterns are available in every width.
