What is a Floating Floor?
A floating floor is a wood or laminate floor that is not glued down to the subfloor or concrete of a home. Now a days, the wood flooring comes in a snap in lock or uni-click system that prevents the floor from moving around once it is installed. A floor underlayment or sound reducer is used underneath the floating wood floor and above the subfloor or concrete. Once the floating floor is installed, quarter round is used around the baseboards to hold the floor in place. Floating floors can be installed over existing flooring as long as the the surface is flat enough. This makes it convenient to remove the floor is you ever need to without causing any damage to the surface below. Right now, a very popular choice among my clients is engineered hardwood flooring. The engineered hardwood has a scratch resistant surface and will last up to 25 years. This is a great product for high traffic areas and if you have small children who spill things often or even pets. A little secret from someone in the business: by buying online, you can save a ton of money because you buy direct from the manufacturer. Think about it, this is how most of the stores in your city get their flooring. The only difference is that you buy direct from the manufacturer and cut out the middle man. The store in your town has overhead and employees to pay, so if you buy direct from Amazon, you save money. Click here to see where we order our material from: engineered hardwood flooring
What is laminate flooring?
Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product, fused together in the lamination process. Modern laminate flooring is made to mimic real wood flooring or engineered hardwood flooring for a fraction of the cost. Most laminate flooring has a protective coating that prevents stains. Laminate flooring can be glued down to the floor beneath or installed “floating” (meaning it isn’t glued or nailed to the subfloor). Laminate flooring is very popular because it is durable and affordable. Many of clients choose to use it when they remodel their homes in San Antonio, Texas.
